Join 5 Acre Woods and the Traveling Circus in awe-inspiring Galapagos!
Who runs this program:
Adriana Carlson has been world schooling with her own children from 2021. She is a forest school and homeschool enrichment teacher in her home state of Colorado. She taught with the Traveling Circus (a community of traveling digital workers who hired a teacher for their children) during the 2022/2023 school year. She has taught in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala; Urubamba, Cusco, and Arequippa, Peru; Rural Andalusia in Spain; Peniche, Portugal; Dungarven, Ireland; and Samara, Costa Rica. Her favorite part about traveling and teaching is weaving in local culture, history, story telling, geography, and nature into a final capstone project. In the Galapagos, Adriana is assisted by artist and co-teacher Amy Bakke who will be instructing the water color lessons each day.
Who is this program for:
This program is run as an educational spring-break camp. There will be plenty of team building exercises, getting to know each other games, art lessons, history, geography, and nature study practices as well as excursions in and around Puerto Ayora. We will have structured learning time as well as opportunities for free play. This program is suitable for children ages 6-14 who are kind, inquisitive, imaginative, and accustomed to structured learning time.
What is this program:
We will follow Charles Darwin’s footsteps through our own nature study. Like any good naturalist, we will document our own observations in our nature journals with daily watercolor lessons, and filmed observations. Each day will have a planned excursion, an art lesson, a documentary video making component, and an hour of focus time to work on school work sent from home.
When will the program run:
March 10th - March 27th 2025; Monday - Thursday 9:00 - 2:00 with Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays available to explore the island of Santa Cruz as a community or free time as families.
Where is it located:
We will be based in the town of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. The nearest airport is Seymour Airport (GPS) on Baltra Island. Puerto Ayora is the most populated town with a population of about 12,000, and is the most developed town in the Galapagos Islands with medical facilities, grocery stores, restaurants, and activities to do. As well, of course, their famous pier with sea lions sleeping on benches, and beaches with sun-bathing iguanas.
