5 Acre Woods
We love to share our passion for history and creative writing. ..
Daily Rhythm:
Circle Time: Time to connect with each other through singing, map work, and movement. With occasional activities such as show and tell, breathing, meditation, and team building.
Main Lesson Block – History: This block covers our history lesson and activity. It includes reading aloud and activities based on what we are learning. Each week, we review what we’ve learned in previous weeks. We incorporate games, acting, arts, crafts or other kinesthetic methods of learning to make it come alive for children.
Snack and Outdoor Recess: We know it’s important for kids to have free time together outdoors, and we aim to provide approximately an hour of outside free play each day.
Lunch/Book Club: During lunch we transition to our creative writing/literature portion of our day. We will read 1-2 books each semester to learn storytelling techniques and discuss during our lunch break.
Main Lesson Block – Creative Expression/ Writing: This portion of the day we will work on on our larger capstone projects for the semester such as creating poems, writing songs, world building, short stories, filmmaking, and other visual and performing arts based on what we learned in history and literature.
Closing Circle and Clean Up Our last portion of the day ends with Clean Up and then a final Circle Time.
We are thrilled to share the upcoming curriculum for 2025/2026 school year!
This year’s history and geography program features a captivating journey through world history from Shakespeare and Queen Nzinga of Angola to the French and American Revolutions. Our engaging approach is hands on as it incorporates art, and play based activities to enrich our understanding of history and geography that makes these subjects feel vivid and relevant.
In our creative writing program, we will foster curiosity and wonder through world building, poetry, short stories, and song writing to create capstone projects (a film, a podcast, and a literary magazine) to share with parents throughout the school year.
We serve grades 3-8th and meet on Wednesdays in Palmer Lake from 8:30-3:30.
